- ★★★★★over 1 year agoWe visited Center Lake, SD at the beginning of August, 2024. We camped in the upper loop which was clean and had enough space to not feel crowded with other campers. The outhouses were well maintained and didn't smell bad. Down at the lake, it was much busier than expected, considering how off the main road the lake is. The parking lot was full and cars were parked well down the road. (The outhouses here didn't smell so good..) But when we visited the water later in the evenings, the water was perfect and there were few to no people around. We also enjoyed the trail around the lake, which was only 1.5 miles with some nice views of the water.
- ★★★★★over 1 year agoVery nice set up for groups in the group area! Individual spots for privacy, but close enough for youth groups etc. Clean vault toilets. Water spigots in several places. Showers by the beach. A nice outdoor theater area (bring your own projector) good fishing and trails in the area. No cell service unless you hike the lost trails to the top side of the south east corner of the lake.
- ★★★★★over 2 years agoSmall quiet beach. It’s well-maintained with a toilet and shower area both covered. Plenty of picnic tables with a few of them covered. Access to a few 3 mile hiking trails. Great parking, fit my 1 ton truck. No problem. $20 gets you in the state park for seven days. Ensure you get a tag or they will give you a ticket.
- ★★★★★over 1 year agoArea was peaceful compared to the rest of the park. The lake was very pretty and there is a waterfall on the far side that was pretty.
- ★★★★★about 3 years agoCenter Lake is a Serene camping area located in the black hills. I liked it because there were not very many RVs and mostly just tent campers. It's been my experience that RVs make much more noise and have a much bigger footprint than us tent campers. I enjoyed my stay and I will definitely go back.
