We went here for a day trip because I was told that there was grills at this location as it's proved very difficult the closer you are to Albany to find a park that has a grill. I have to say I've never been to a State Park that has so many amenities but almost aggressively doesn't want you to use them? Half of the grills that we inspected were rusted through and are in desperate need of repair or replacement. All of the very large grills and covered picnic tables require reservations for use. There was absolutely no bathrooms anywhere near grilling areas. No running water to speak of. The bathrooms next to the swimming area were locked and the restaurant closed for the season leaving no place to use the restroom. I cannot imagine renting out one of the pavilion buildings for family gathering only to find there is nowhere to pee or wash your hands without having to drive over half a mile. We ended up driving all the way down to primitive camping and giving up on the beautiful lake vista just to have the privilege of water, restrooms, and a place to grill. I have no doubt this place is wonderful if you rent a cabin or have an RV. All the cabins we drove by had convenient grills attached to them with a table, and looking at the map the setup for the RVs looked pretty impressive...but if you're just here to enjoy the park for a day, it is incredibly inconvenient to the point of feeling spiteful. I've been to a lot of state parks but this one was by far the most ill equipped for basic human needs. It really is a shame too because there's a lot to see here and it is a beautifully maintained park for the most part? I just wish that I could eat a burger and wash my hands without having to travel so far between the two tasks.

I have so many memories of coming here since I was a kid. 🙂 There still room for improvements such as adding little children's water-playstation and cleaner bathroom facilities with much needed toiletries. Yep! I would your own necessities. I am glad to see this bench was built for someone to sit and have peaceful moments by myself or to to be accompanied by others. —maybe a picnic.

Beautiful location. People can fish, swim, Jet ski and wrestle alligators all at the same spot! Just be sure to bring bug spray as the gnats are ferocious.
