- ★★★★★over 1 year agoWe kayaked here last week. It was a beautiful day and the water was pleasant. We paddled out towards the bridge and just sat there and drifted. There are many coves and other quiet places with lots of fisherman at the bass fishing tournament. The reservoir has it's own dedicated kayak launch, the first we've seen. Paddling in the waves was exhilarating and we felt exhilarated and tired (in a good way) upon return with some waves splashing us.
- ★★★★★over 5 years agoHuge resevoir. Very deep. A lot of very good fishing spot from the bank. Good for kayaking, could explore for days. Better for bass boat fishing. Big bridge with lots of rock. Big damn with lots of rock. Lots of underwater structure and cover for fish to grow. Species other than bass like Sunfish, pickerel, catfish, and carp. Never seen Crappie before but I'm sure they're there. Outdoor port-a-jons, boat ramp, and fishing pier.

- ★★★★★over 1 year agoI love the lake it really is not a big lake vs Buggs Island or Lake Anna but all around fishing is excellent here and I've fished just about every lake that's public waters , (not a private pond) Compared to the Occoquan Resivor in Northern VA. where I grew up fishing is 10x's bigger than Sandy River is. But it is a great place to bass fish for sure , and there's not a place that you actually have a better chance to catch a 30in Bass that is 10lb + bass in VA. Slot Limits and Catch And Release goes a long way in the preservation of our public bodies of water. The DGIF has come a long way and it definitely shows, along with the help from the public with trying to release it to swim and be cought again one day. It definitely has saved me from the street's and the crowd of people that would have eventually got me into trouble. I was a kid the 1st time I came to Sandy River and Briery Creek Lake witch is not far from Sandy River here in Farmville,VA. Go Longwood!
